Gardenpath d'Galavanting Rose's addition to my Poodle family was a perfect mix of adventure and serendipity.
To properly tell Kluane's story, I have to back up several years to about 2013 and my first online encounter with someone in the Standard Poodle world. Although, at the time of our connecting online, I had no idea Renee, Kluane's eventual breeder, was involved in Poodles. Renee and I become friends through Instagram while bonding over our passion for... are you ready?... KNITTING!
The knitting hobby is exactly what brought Renee and I to each other's attention. We love to oogle over various fibers and colorways together. Renee also runs the lovely shop, The Quilted Hound, and is one of my favorite little boutiques to purchase custom made coat protector collars and leggings. Once we established an online friendship through knitting, I eventually discovered Renee had black Standard Poodles. Wallace was just a puppy at this time, so having someone like Renee to engage in Poodle questions was such a benefit for me.
Renee's kennel is Gardenpath Poodles.
And when you visit the Gardenpath website, you'll notice the cover image of the lovely Poodle bitch puppy. It is THAT trim, done by the uber talented Allie Cowie, and THAT puppy that was my tipping point for wanting a Gardenpath puppy some day.
That little puppy is the incomparable Ella, also known as MBIS MRBIS MBISS MBPIS MBPISS Am/Cdn GCH Gardenpath Concours d’Elegante. And she recently won the Standard variety at our Poodle National in 2017. She's lovely, isn't she?
Early in 2017, I had mentioned to Renee that I'd be interested in a nice, black bitch from her, should she have a litter with any promising prospects. Renee shared with me her breeding plans for 2017 and that it include a breeding that would be 3/4 of Ella's pedigree.
Fast forward several months and a precious litter was born with one special female who was to be ours!
Kluane's Gotcha Day turned out to take quite a bit of planning.
I live in Alaska and Kluane was born outside Toronto Ontario, in a town called Kitchener. Coordinating the time and place to get little Kluane proved to be very difficult! After a lot of back and forth, trying to accommodate Renee's schedule in September, I came up with an idea! It made perfect sense in my mind to turn this gotcha day into a road trip!! The adventure included Wallace and Pali. We spent days hiking and wandering through Canada as we made our way closer and closer to Kluane.
Kluane has proven to be the perfect addition to the Galavanting Poodle family. She exhibits a wonderful confidence and such a sweet spirit! Klu is a beautiful puppy with a stunning head, lovely neck and her structure is second-to-none. It was the lovely headpiece that really drew me to the pairing between the Safari kennel origins of Gardenpath and the amazing lines from Kaylen's Show Kennel. But I can't forget to mention Klu's outstanding temperament! Such a joy, this baby girl is in my family!
I am so looking forward to Kluane's journey as a show prospect in both AKC and CKC. I'm also very excited about Kluane's life in Alaska. She has already shown that she has a taste for the outdoors (water, in particular!) and a fearless spirit that will suit her well in the backcountry.
There are going to be so many adventures to look forward to with Kluane!
